Allow about half a day for Notre Dame on a first visit. Studebaker provides the indoor afternoon, Potawatomi Zoo fills the family outing, and the St. Joseph River links the East Race with downtown.
Campus, city, and river
Give the Main Quad, Basilica, Grotto, lakes, Hesburgh Library mural, and stadium area a half day. Begin at the Eck Visitors Center; public guided tours currently register in person on the day, while stadium tours use a separate schedule.
The Studebaker National Museum is South Bend's substantial indoor stop. Its cars, presidential carriages, and local manufacturing story make it more than a generic automobile collection.

The whitewater channel is a distinctive piece of downtown South Bend, but the linked operator page still displays 2022 season information. Treat the riverwalk as dependable; confirm current rafting dates directly before making the waterway the day’s main event.
Mishawaka’s Riverwalk suits travelers staying near Grape Road or looking for a longer, calmer river walk. It is not a necessary detour from downtown South Bend unless the hotel, meal, or east-side route already takes you there.
